I love the turn of the seasons- Winter to Spring, Spring to Summer. There really is something in the air that makes everyone smile a little brighter as we finally pull off our layers and get some sunshine.

Maybe it’s everything new around me when a new season rolls around, but the familiar craving to get new stuff also seems to join the new season feels. And where this might be a great time to indulge in a few new ethical pieces for many, my overstuffed closet and NY apartment tells me it is not one for me.

That’s where my new JORD watch comes in. It’s something new- a perfect compromise for my shopping craving- but something versatile and a true investment in my wardrobe.

My approach to treating myself used to be about quantity- lately it’s been all about quality. If I’m going to skip a night cooking to eat out, I want to go for fresh ingredients and a mouthwatering meal. And if I’m going to add to the amount of stuff currently crammed into my living space, it’s going to be the best.

When it comes to men’s and women’s watches- at least in the sustainable space- JORD might actually be the best. It starts right with their makers. JORD watches are handcrafted by artists, designers, marketers. They are working with timepieces, which have been used for function and fashion for ages, to create a unique watch for a modern lifestyle.

JORD makes their watches from wood. When’s the last time you’ve thought about what your favorite accessories are made of? I know I usually don’t. Growing up, my parents scoffed at “artificial” jewelry because in India, real gold and silver were valued for a long time. Jewelry was meant to last, which, like many Eastern traditions, had the added benefit of being nor only better for the environment, but for our bodies.

Now, many of our watches, bags, scarfs, necklaces, earrings and more are fashioned with toxic materials and chemicals. And we are putting those directly on our skin, near our noses, ears and more- daily! There are many with sensitive skin and allergies that have already faced the consequences of this.

That’s why I love JORD’s wood watches. They’re made from natural, renewable sources which makes them both beautiful and sustainable. They are designed in the US and made in a self-managed factory in China. Using one factory where they are close to the process allows them to ensure the quality and sustainability of JORD watches.

JORD makes watches for men and women, and in a variety of sizes and styles. You can actually get them engraved and sized as well! They make great gifts or- if you’re like me- treat yourself compromises.
